Date: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2023
Maple Creek Public School’s Maple Creek is very excited to celebrate our Fall Fest, where students can work on building community, learn about one another’s traditions, and celebrate a successful start to the year.
There will be music in the gym, with options to participate in the games room, or artistic explorations like colouring, origami and more.
Students are encouraged to wear fall colours or a costume that adheres to the school guidelines.
Fall Fest/ Hallowe’ en Guidelines
On October 31 , 2023 , students may choose to wear Fall colours such as red, orange, yellow, and brown in order to show enthusiasm for our Fall Fest. Students may also choose to wear a costume for Hallowe’ en on this date.
If they choose to wear a costume , please ensure the following guidelines are followed:
- students are not to wear costume masks or bring in toy weapons
- in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, it is important that costumes do not trivialize and devalue the lives of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
- costumes should be respectful of others. Symbols or objects representative of a person’ s culture or religious beliefs should not be worn as another person’ s costume, nor should costumes that caricature social identities through stereotyping.
Hallowe’ en brings memories of dress-up parades, costume competitions, and classroom parties for some members of our community, and carries a very different meaning for others. It is important for us to recognize that not all families celebrate and participate in Hallowe’ en. The reasons for not participating may include cultural beliefs, faith, socioeconomic status, and personal reasons.
Thank you for helping to make Maple Creek Public School an inclusive place where every student feels l ike they matter and belong.
